José Alegria is the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Portugal Telecom and Coordinator of the Cyber Security area at the level of the entire Altice Group.
Portugal Telecom’s Cyber Security Operations Center and CSIRT are under his responsibility. He is also a member of the EUROPOL European Cybercrime Center (EC3) Advisory Group on Communication Providers.
Prior to Portugal Telecom, he was CTO of ONI Telecom, CEO of BanifServ from Grupo Banif, Managing Director of BPI Group, member of the Executive Committee of IBM Portugal where he launched the IBM Scientific Award, and responsible for EuroAce’s Data General Europe.
He is an Informatic Engineer from FCT / UNL and has a postgraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering as a Gulbenkian fellow and Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Ohio State University in the USA. He has been teaching for several years in the IT Department of FCTL / UNL and was responsible for several technological chairs of his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
He was a founding member of the College of Enga Informática of the Order of Engineers, having been its member and member of its Committee of Admission and Qualification.
In technical terms his current interests are centered on the integration and application of Machine Learning techniques to the domain of cyber security
